If today you are blissfully unburdened by responsibility for an elderly parent, one day you will be, as all of us are bound to be. It doesn’t come upon you all at once though. It usually starts with little episodes of memory loss. Your father who would never forget your wedding anniversary or your birthday, seems to no longer really care to remember. Your whole life in an instant becomes all about taking care of her. If this is you, you need to know that 20% of America is caught in the same predicament. That number will double in a mere 50 years.

Taking elderly healthcare seriously is such a wrenching experience that it can break families apart. Your time is no longer yours, and you are not allowed to feel frustration – because after all, it’s your parent. Make sure that the contract is properly drawn up. Or else, whatever the parents pay the child may come to be seen by the government as a gift, and the parents could lose eligibility for nursing home care under Medicaid. But in the end, taking care of your parents’ elderly health needs can be as rewarding as taking care of your own little child. As much as it takes out of you, it helps you reconnect.

What Paintball Can Do for one’s Health

Participating in sports can really be good for a person. For those who are too lazy to go to the gym, there is something worth trying and that is the game of paintball. This extreme sport has been around for some time and almost anyone can play it. All it takes is some protective gear and a gun for the person to go out into the field.

Some people think that engaging in this type of sport is unsafe since the bullets travel at fast speeds, and a person could get injured. Contrary to that belief, statistics show that this is safer than other contact sports such as basketball and football.

This physical activity burns calories as the player has to walk up on the enemy without being detected then has to run when retreating or charging.  It is better than running on a treadmill that many find boring since the scenery does not change.

The Health Risks of Cigar Smoking

We have all heard of the risks associated with smoking cigarettes, but what are the risks of cigar smoking?  Are the risks of smoking cigars just as dangerous, or more so?  According to the National Cancer Instituted, regular cigar smoking can result in a major health threat.  Scientific research has linked cigar smoking with cancers of the larynx, lungs, esophagus, and oral cavity.  Newer research also indicates that cigar smoking may be strongly linked to the development of cancer in the pancreas.  Doctors also caution that individuals who regularly inhale while enjoying a cigar are also at greater risk of developing lung disease and heart problems.

The health threats of cigar smoking appear to increase dramatically in those individuals who smoke regularly and inhale while smoking.  Someone who smokes three to four cigars each day will him or herself at eight times the risk of developing some kind of oral cancer than a nonsmoker.  Unfortunately, we do not yet know the health risks of smoking the occasional cigar.  It seems clear however that smoking cigars on a daily basis can pose serious health risks.

Many individuals wonder if cigars are as addictive as cigarettes. But I knew my weakness; I was never going to stick to a diet if I wasn’t happy with how it tasted. I even began to wonder if I might commit better to a diet if I realized that it was costing me money to buy food to go with it. I looked up all kinds of diet delivery services on the Internet, and after asking my friends, I narrowed it down to two: eDiets and Nu-Kitchen. eDiets delivers anywhere mostly; they supply a whole week’s worth of meals in one package every week. Nu-Kitchen delivers anywhere mostly – they deliver daily.

The all-in-one diet program, as expensive as it is, isn’t so popular anymore in today’s recessive environment. People are just buying their foods and diet supplements at the supermarket. If you haven’t guessed already, I’m kind of finicky about what I eat. If I lacked the skills to make diet meals at home, I was pretty confident that professionals would somehow find a way to put the taste back into lean food. So I placed my order for a five-day package with Nu-Kitchen. It cost more than $200, and the sticker said that the five-day plan would supply me with no more than 9000 calories altogether. When the package arrived the first day, I was quite excited, ven if I wasn’t really expecting much. Diet delivery, it turns out, isn’t as tasty as it should be, considering how they’re experts at work. It kind of looked like the kind of stuff you might get in the hospital. The food often looked somewhat unrecognizable, tasteless, and not tempting or desirable at all. It was so disappointing that I had to supplement my diet meal with more satisfying stuff from the fridge. I actually gained a little weight at the end of the week.

The eDiet diet delivery company was much cheaper –  it cost half what Nu-Kitchen did. Probably, they are able to do this because they save on cutting out the daily delivery. And these meals were much better. They arrived in a large FedEx package with 15 meals for five days. Their baked apple was great, but their meals were so-so. I was beginning to become disappointed with diet delivery services until I tried a local company called Zone Manhattan.

To begin with, their meals come with great recipes, lots of vegetables, everything fresh, and everything wonderfully done. And their meals are nothing like you would find in the hospital – seared T-bone, fruit  juices, buttered bagels at all. On top of all that, it follows the famous Zone Diet that recommends that you take in your carbs, your protein and your fat in a 4:3:3 ratio. I was so happy with what I was getting to eat, that I never cheated on my diet at all, and at the end of the week, I’d lost 5 pounds. Now here was a diet delivery service that I can work with. The thing is, Zone Manhattan, unlike the other companies, isn’t national. Perhaps if you could look for a local service yourself, you succeed with your diet delivery service.
